Nov, 2024 : DE-CIX Launches Houston Internet Exchange with DataBank

📅 November 15, 2024 - DE-CIX, one of the worlds leading Internet exchange (IX) operators, has launched DE-CIX Houston, its sixth and southernmost Internet Exchange in the United States. The new IX, located at DataBanks Westway Park data center in Houston, would provide robust interconnection options for the region, addressing a significant connectivity gap in the largest U.S. city without a major IX relative to its market size.

The DE-CIX Houston exchange is connected to several key facilities, including HOU1, HOU2, HOU3, and the Galleria (HOU5). From Day 1, it offers low-latency connectivity to DE-CIX Dallas, which links over 150 networks, as well as access to other national and international DE-CIX [...][... 📅 Oct 17, 2026 - DE-CIX Frankfurt Tops 21 Tbps as Global Exchange Traffic Passes 32 Tbps - DE-CIX recorded peak traffic of 21.47 terabits per second in Frankfurt and 32.10 terabits across its worldwide exchanges on October 13, setting records just 25 days after its previous milestones. The simultaneous peaks coincided with UEFA Champions League matches, putting the capacity needed for concentrated demand back in view for network operators, hosting providers, and infrastructure buyers.

For those buying connectivity, the question is how much spare capacity remains when demand rises across many customers at once. An evening surge can expose a constraint that average utilization conceals. It can also pass without incident through a network built with sufficient headroom. These [...]

📅 Oct 12, 2026 - DE-CIX and TOWARDEX Bring New York Exchange Access to Boston - DE-CIX and TOWARDEX have connected Boston's Hub Express System to DE-CIX New York, offering regional networks access to peering and cloud services without renting space in traditional carrier hotels. The arrangement removes cross connect fees at both ends, according to the partners, changing part of the cost calculation for operators seeking connectivity beyond Boston's local network ecosystem.

For a regional internet provider or hosting operator, reaching an exchange can require more than purchasing a port. Equipment placement, transport, physical connections and maintenance arrangements all enter the bill. Removing the need for a separate colocation presence could make participation [...]

📅 Oct 10, 2026 - Iberia’s Near 9 GW Data Center Pipeline Raises Power Questions - Spain and Portugal have a data center development pipeline approaching 9 gigawatts, according to a newly published assessment of Iberian digital infrastructure, a study by Dstream Group that was commissioned by Internet Exchange operator DE-CIX. The scale points to a substantial potential market for AI computing, but leaves investors and enterprise buyers facing a more immediate question: how much of that proposed capacity can secure power and enter service reliably?

A development pipeline measures ambition before it measures availability. Enterprises choosing locations for computing infrastructure need delivery dates, usable electrical capacity, and contractual assurances. Investors need [...]

📅 Oct 2, 2026 - DE-CIX and Cabo Verde Telecom Explore Lisbon–São Paulo Interconnection Corridor - DE-CIX and Cabo Verde Telecom (CVTelecom) have signed a nonbinding letter of intent to explore a South Atlantic interconnection corridor between Lisbon and São Paulo. The proposed collaboration aims to improve connectivity among Southern Europe, West Africa, and Latin America.

The companies say the corridor could provide more direct traffic routes, reducing reliance on hubs in Northern Europe and North America while improving network resilience and route diversity.

Under the proposed arrangement, CVTelecom would supply transport capacity between Lisbon and São Paulo. DE-CIX would provide access to its interconnection services in Frankfurt, Madrid, Marseille, New York, and São Paulo, [...]

📅 Sep 19, 2026 - DE-CIX Adds Austrian Exchange as Traffic Tops 30 Tbps Globally - DE-CIX is extending Internet exchange infrastructure into southern Austria as traffic on its Frankfurt platform crosses 20 terabits per second for the first time. The new ALPSiX exchange, serving Klagenfurt and Villach from late 2026, brings local peering closer to regional networks while DE-CIX's worldwide exchanges simultaneously passed 30 terabits per second in peak traffic this week.

The numbers expose two apparently conflicting movements in European network architecture. Frankfurt keeps getting bigger. At the same time, regional operators are trying to avoid sending traffic hundreds of kilometers to established hubs when two networks sitting in the same region could exchange it [...]
