📅 August 1, 2006 - Web hosting and dedicated server provider ServePath (servepath.com -> datapipe.com) announced on Tuesday that it had introduced its new Gigabit Port Upgrade service, offering customers a means of meeting greater demands for burstable bandwidth capacity.

For $99 per month per server, the Gigabit upgrade option allows Internet traffic to burst beyond 100Mbps.

ServePath says it is one of the first Web hosting companies to offer Gigabit Internet connections with its dedicated server packages, and offers the service without long-term contract requirements.

"Many hosting providers throttle port speed to 10Mbps, or sometimes even 4 Mbps or less," says ServePath president John Keagy. "ServePath has always given our customers a full 100Mbps, but now our Gigabit upgrade option will give companies an even greater ability to harness the power of our Screaming-Fast Network. When their product launch exceeds their wildest expectations or their company makes the front page of The New York Times or Yahoo!, their site will be ready for the increase in traffic."
