Aug 15, 2006 : Florida Cities Sign With Terremark NAP

📅 August 15, 2006 - Internet exchange and data center operator Terremark Worldwide (terremark.com -> akamai.com) announced on Monday that Miami Beach and Doral, Florida have each signed a contract for colocation services at the NAP of the Americas facility. They join the Miami-Dade County, Coral Gables and other state and local government entities that house their critical infrastructure at the facility.

Terremark's NAP of the Americas will support the cities' communications needs and significantly expand their connectivity capabilities. This will enable future seamless connections with other local municipalities, the Miami-Dade County and other organizations, as well as local educational institutions already housed at the NAP.

Both Miami Beach and Doral will be provided with secure and redundant Internet access, colocation space and power, which will serve as the foundation for the cities' Internet and disaster recovery platforms. The services build on Terremark's existing contract with Miami-Dade County, which allows Florida's public schools, counties and cities to purchase services under the Miami-Dade Unified Access Program contract vehicle in a cost-effective manner.

"As the City of Miami Beach continues to grow and prosper, we are more and more dependent on our ability to expand our connectivity capabilities to service our end-users," says Jorge M. Gonzalez, Miami Beach City manager. 📅 Feb 9, 2009 - Terremark Delays Building in Santa Clara - Terremark Worldwide (terremark.com -> akamai.com) announced on Monday it has decided to delay the building of a data center in Santa Clara, California, focusing its development budget dollars instead on its data center in Virginia, the NAP of the Capital Region, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge.

The company says it is seeing significant demand for colocation and managed hosting services at the Culpeper, Virginia facility.
