Oct 30, 2006 : Ethical Host Switches to Wind Power

ethicalhost.ca logo📅 - Toronto, Canada-based Web hosting provider Ethical Host (ethicalhost.ca) announced on Friday it has signed an agreement with the Pembina Institute (pembina.org) to purchase wind power certificates to offset electricity usage from its servers and other equipment.

Ethical Host says that by purchasing green certificates, it can offset the greenhouse gases produced by its electricity use by purchasing wind power elsewhere on the grid in Canada. This, it says, helps to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources.

"We are pleased to be partnering with the leading provider of sustainable energy development in Canada," says John MacKenzie, president of Ethical Host. "These renewable energy certificates help us to expand our commitment to supporting environmental initiatives."

To help reduce its use of energy, Ethical Host uses energy star appliances, CFL lightbulbs and other energy efficient equipment in its office. When a customer signs up for any of the company's Web hosting packages, Ethical Host donates 10 percent of its profits to the customer's charitable organization of choice.
