📅 - The huge push for renewable energy in the United States has changed the way data centers operate. With the ability for colocation services to be operated with clean energy, many companies have gained good publicity and lower energy costs. Google, alone, invests tens of millions of dollars into renewable energy through purchase contracts.
With this type of energy making more sense for businesses than ever before, it's helping fuel the next generation of colocation services. Most data centers have considered using sustainable energy and many are using it in some form already. This is expected to increase in the next five years, as well.

📅 - Amazon’s Transpacific Survey Ship Sets Sail - Amazon's ship, Survey, set sail last Thursday on a mission to explore the Pacific Ocean floor. The objective is to find the best route for laying a fiber-optic cable system to link data centers in the United States with Australia and New Zealand.
This is the cloud giants first wade into the submarine cable system ocean. Amazon's main rivals Microsoft and Google both have already made waves by committing major investments to boost trans-oceanic network bandwidth.

📅 - Rackspace has Sold its Cloud Hosting Business to Liquid Web - Rackspace, a managed cloud company, recently sold its cloud hosting business to Liquid Web, a web hosting and close service provider. The purchase by Liquid Web will give them all of Rackspace's cloud customers and the entire Cloud Sites Business Unit. The Rackspace staff and company will remain in San Antonio and a cost for the purchase has not been released yet.
Customers from Rackspace are expected to experience an easy transition as Liquid Web moves the business to their own infrastructure. The company also announced plans to invest further into solutions for Cloud Sites to better serve their new and existing customers.

📅 - Brexit Causing UK IT Departments to Scramble - Brexit will bring new changes and a survey done last month showed how IT firms across the globe were preparing for the changes. The survey really looked closely at the UK and found that many IT professionals are force to rethink future budgets and are scrambling to deal with the changes Brexit will bring.
Spiceworks conducted the survey and found that many things in the IT market are expected to get more confusing, while spending will be delayed. They also found that many organizations are worried about how it will affect data storage and how it will change the overall usage of cloud solutions.

📅 - Former Oracle Employee Blasted for Claims - A former employee of Oracle claims the company cooked the cloud revenues and now Oracle is blasting them in court. The employee was a former senior finance manager and stated that the numbers for cloud revenues from Oracle are inflated.
Svetlana Blackburn was fired from Oracle in 2015 and stated the reason for the firing was her unwillingness to use improper procedures for accounting when it came to the cloud revenue. She claims she was told to add “millions of dollars in accruals to financial reports, with no concrete or foreseeable billing to support the numbers.”

📅 - Intel has Acquired Nervana Systems - Intel, a technology company, recently made the announcement that they have acquired the Artificial Intelligence startup company Neverana Systems. This is looked at as Intel planning for a future of data centers being managed by artificial intelligence.
Intel is headquartered in Santa Clara, California and known as one of the top producers in the world for computer processors. They are also involved in many other technology activities. Nervana Systems is headquartered in San Diego, California and specializes in what is known as “deep learning” solutions for computation and data analysis.
