Mar, 2016 : Google to Increase Wifi and Broadband Access in Cuba


📅 - Google announced today that they will provide WiFi and broadband services in Cuba, a country where the internet isn't widely used currently–about 5-30% of Cubans use the internet. The announcement comes after President Obama's much-anticipated visit to Cuba last week.

Cuba currently owns two ISPs that citizens use to connect to the internet. Last month, one of those ISPs, ETECSA, said it would allow Cubans in Old Havana to order internet service through Huawei, Chinese telecom operator, for the first time ever.

The Cuban government opened 35 paid public WiFi hotspots last summer. The hotspots charge $2.00/hour (USD).
