📅 - The country with the most popular TLD country code isn't a large, well-known country. No, it's Tokelau, according to a domain map posted by Nominet. The domain extension is .tk and about one-sixth the GDP of Tokelau comes from these domains.
Over 31 million domains are live on the .tk extension, while only 16 million use the German extension .de. About 10.5 million use the .uk extension, while 2.5 million use the .ca extension. Even though the use has a population nine times larger than Canada, only 1.7 websites use the .us domain extension.
A big reason for this is due to the universal .com being used by most early websites in the United States and other countries. Over 123 million websites use the .com extension. .
