France May Add Anti-Encryption Amendment to Digital Republic Bill


📅 - The French parliament is considering adding an anti-encryption amendment to the Digital Republic bill. The purpose of the amendment is to allow law enforcement access to unencrypted information when authorized by a judge to do so. Eighteen members of France's Republican Party have proposed this amendment, which will be debated this week along with 400 other amendments to the bill.

The amendment's summary statement explained the reason for the amendment's proposal: “The objective is to avoid that individual encryption systems will further delay the investigation.”
