Jan 1, 2016 : Intel Acquires FPGA CPLD and Altera

📅 January 1, 2016 - Intel, a chipmaker, has made the acquisition of FPGA CPLD and Altera, the ASIC solutions provider. Intel is headquartered in Santa Clara, California and known as one of the largest semiconductor chip producers in the world.

The deal moved forwarded even after scrutiny from the European Commission. The reported amount for the deal was $16.7 billion. Altera is headquartered in San Jose, California and also makes chips. They used to be a competitor of Intel.
