Nov, 2014 : Microsoft Offers Office 365 To Mobile Users For Free
📅 - Microsoft is giving Android, iPhones, and iPad users its Office 365 software for mobile apps free of charge, a service that previously began at $70.
“We want as many users as we can get,” said John Case, a corporate vice president of marketing for Microsoft Office. “It's becoming clearer to us, to continue to be the best paid solution, it's also important to be the best free solution.”
However, the Wall Street Journal notes that Microsoft will continue to charge desktop and laptop users for a subscription of Office 365.
The mobile version will include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, giving users the ability to use most of the basic functions of each, though mobile users who want more advanced editing such as customization of font charts, tables, formatting tables and charts will need to purchase the full subscription.
In a interview with Geekwire, Case noted that Office 365 for iPad has received 40 million downloads since its release in March, adding that its “still a fraction of all the customers that have ever bought an iPad.”
“I want as many of them as possible to be in an Office environment, whether that's the free environment or the paid environment.”
