Chinese Government Reportedly Hacking Chinese User’s iCloud Accounts

📅 - Chinese Apple user's iCloud accounts are reportedly being hacked from none other than their own government.

Non-profit organization Great Fire claimed that Chinese authorities were using a man-in-the-middle attack to gain usernames and passwords, as well as data from iMessages, photos, and contacts, TechCrunch reports.

The man-in-the-middle attack allows the hackers to intercept log in credentials when users access certain sites.

“If users ignored the security warning and clicked through eh Apple site and entered their username and password this information has now been compromised by the Chinese authorities,” stated a report from Great Fire.

However, the BBC reported that China's foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying stated that these allegations were false and that the government is “resolutely opposed” to hacking.

Great Fire noted that the Chinese government has previously attacked Google and Yahoo users with similar tactics.
