Oct 7, 2014 : Microsoft Takes Student Privacy Pledge

📅 - Microsoft and a dozen other companies are taking a pledge to protect student's data.

The pledge was created by the Future of Privacy Forum and the Software & Information Industry Association as a way help students and their parents be assured that companies do not sell kindergarteners through 12th graders information and not target the students with advertising, the New York Times reports.

“We wanted to say to parents: ‘No one's going to sell your kids' data; nobody's going to track your child around the Internet; no one's going to compile a profile that is used against your child when they apply for a job 20 years later,'” said executive director of the Future Privacy Forum, Jules Polonetsky. “We hope this is a useful way for companies that want to be trusted partners in schools to make it clear they are on the side of responsible data use.”

Among the 14 participating companies are Amplify, DreamBox Learning, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, MIND Research Institution, and Think Through Math.
