Oct, 2014 : Over 80 Million Affected By JPMorgan Data Breach

📅 October 3, 2014 - More than 80 million accounts were affected in the JPMorgan Chase data breach that occurred in August, confirmed the company on Thursday.

According to CNN, the hackers were able to access 76 million customers' accounts, and 7 million small business where customers names, phone numbers, and home and email addresses were compromised, as well as “internal JPMorgan Chase information relating to such users.”

However, the company noted that the cybercriminals did not get ahold of information such as IDs, account numbers, Social Security numbers, and birth dates.

“The firm continues to vigilantly monitor the situation and is continuing to investigate the matter,” said JPMorgan.

A number of banks were attacked in August where the hackers infiltrated the banks systems by using a zero-day flaw, allowing them the ability to remotely control the systems, noting that attack appeared to be “far beyond the capability of ordinary criminal hackers.”

The bank plans to spend around $250 million yearly for cybersecurity to protect its customers from future attacks.
