📅 - After Cisco's quarterly earnings announcement on Wednesday, the IT company said it plans on laying off up to 6,000 employees, or 8 percent of its work force, in the coming months, though a specific time frame was not given.
“We are focused on growth, innovation and talent, especially in the areas of security, data center, software, cloud and internet of everything. Our strategy is sound, our financials are strong, and our market leadership is secure,” said Cisco CEO John Chambers in a press release. “We have the team in place to deliver and are uniquely positioned to help our customers solve their biggest business problems.”
No specific details were given on what departments the cuts will affect, though a spokeswoman said it “will vary depending on the business need.”
Cisco's fourth-quarter earnings announced yesterday revealed a loss of revenue for the company. The company's sales were $12.36 billion, down from $12.42 billion last year, CNN reports.

📅 - Why Linux is Perfect for the Cloud - When building a public or private cloud, there plenty of options. You can build a cloud stack on almost any operating system, but some Linux-based OSes are ideal for the cloud. It is therefore, no surprise that many cloud systems rely on Linux to power their backends.
Why Linux Rocks the Cloud
1. Freedom – In this case, I am not referring to the financial freedom of not having to pay as much for licensing or the freedom that comes with using freely licensed software. This type of freedom is about the flexibility of development and configurations that you can get out of Linux operating systems. You can mold it into any type of cloud system you want.
2. Multiple Virtualization Options - Lin
📅 - BGP Routing Table Limitations Cause Global Service Interruption - The cause of these disruptions is the constant growth in IPv4 address usage across the Internet and the resultant impact on network equipment's BGP routing tables. IPv4 addresses are used to perform the vast majority of the routing on the global Internet and the significant increase in the number of connected devices has led to an increasing demand online presence. This has led ISPs and registrars to split IP address blocks and allocate much smaller ranges to each new customer due to the demand for resilience, meaning that the total number of IP addresses in active use has grown significantly.
The core network routing technology called Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), stores a vast database o
