Jul, 2014 : Apple Announces New Board Member, Susan Wagner

📅 - On Thursday Apple announced that its longest serving board member of 17 years, Bill Campbell, would be retiring.

“Over the past 17 years, it's been exciting to watch history unfold as Apple emerged as the premier technology company in the world,” said Campbell. “The company today is in the best shape that I have seen it, and Tim [Cook's] leadership of his strong team will allow Apple to continue to be great going forward.”

Campbell first joined Apple as Vice President of Marketing in 1983. Shortly after Steve Job's return to the company, he joined the board in 1997 just as the company was near bankruptcy, Forbes reports.

“When Bill joined Apple's board, the company was on the brink of collapse,” recalls CEO Tim Cook. “He not only helped Apple survive, but he's led us to a level of success that was simply unimaginable back in 1997.”

Susan Wagner, director and co-founder of investment services BlackRock, will be taking his place on the board. She will be serving on both BlackRock's and Apple's board.

“I have always admired Apple for its innovative products and dynamic leadership team, and I'm honored to be joining their board,” said Wagner.
