HP Hires Former Rackspace Cloud Executive, Mark Interrante
📅 - Hewlett-Packard's newest executive to lead its cloud computing unit comes from Texas based IT hosting company Rackspace.
Mark Interrante, former senior VP for products and engineering, will run HP's cloud research and development team as the new senior VP of Engineering based out of Sunnyvale, Re/Code reports.
“There has also been great work done in support of the Public Cloud. Now is the time to bring in a leader to focus on the continued growth and excellence of the Cloud R&D function,” says a memo sent out to HP employees from HP executive VP and CTO Martin Fink.” Our ability to attract leaders of Mark's caliber to the Cloud organization is further evidence of our momentum in the marketplace and of the strength of our plans.”
While at Rackspace, Interrante was on the development team for its open source cloud computing system, OpenStack, which is used by HP and other companies such as IBM, Intel, Cisco, Dell, Yahoo, and Red Hat.
Additionally, he also worked as the GM of Yahoo Media and held technology roles at Deloitte Consulting, Texas Instruments, and HP, as well as leadership positions in startups Spoke Software, Enviz, and Public Mind.
This news comes a week after numerous reports claimed HP had offered Rackspace $6 billion to purchase the company, though HP has denied the rumors.
