Google Begins Removing Search Result Requests Under EU’s Right To Be Forgotten Ruling
📅 - Google announced on Thursday that it has started to remove link requests from its search results following last month's “right to be forgotten” ruling by the European court, reports the Wall Street Journal.
“This week we're starting to take action on the removals requests that we've received,” said a Google spokesman. “This is a new process for us. Each request has to be assessed individually, and we're working as quickly as possible to get through the queue.”
On May 13th, Europe's highest court ruled that Google must comply with requests from individuals who wish to have links removed, stemming from a 16-year old case brought on by a Spanish man who found links discussing his debts and foreclosure of his home.
Last month the tech giant created an online form for Europeans to request link removals. More than 50,000 forms have already been filled out, with more than 12,000 coming from the first 24 hours of the form's release.
