Jun 16, 2014 : AT&T Confirms April Security Breach
📅 - AT&T has confirmed that customer's information including social security numbers and phone records was compromised during a security breach that occurred in April.
“We recently learned that three employees of one of our vendors accessed some AT&T customer accounts without proper authorization,” said AT&T in a statement. “This is completely counter to the way we require our vendors to conduct business.”
According to BGR, the unnamed employees accessed the data between April 9 and April 21 as a way to gain unlock codes from the mobile carrier in order to resell the devices on a secondary mobile market.
AT&T has yet to disclose the number of accounts affected, though CNet notes that California law requires companies to publish incidents that affect at least 500 local customers.
“We know our customers count on us and those who support our business to act with integrity and trust, and we take that very seriously. We have taken steps to help prevent this from happening again, notified affected customers, and reported this matter to law enforcement.”
The telecommunication company is offering customers affected by the breach one year of free credit monitoring services and also advising users to change the passwords on all their accounts.
