Jun, 2014 : Cloudera Acquires Data Security Company Gazzang
📅 - Cloudera announced on Tuesday that it had acquired data security company Gazzang as a way to build the most “robust end-to-end security offerings” for its customers.
According to Cloudera, this acquisition offers its customers key management systems and data encryption within Hadoop's ecosystem, assuring users that their personal data is secure and that it complies with Europe's Data Protection Directive.
“Data security is no longer a checkbox for IT organizations or operations departments, it has become a top business priority,” said Cloudera CEO, Tom Reilly. “At the same time compliance requirements for protecting data continue to expand in scope where data access comes under scrutiny. We're entering a whole new era with the rise of the Industrial Internet and the Internet of Things where there is vastly more data being streamed from billions of devices. Centralizing and accessing that net-new data to unlock its value is therefore a challenge when you consider the security requirements. That's what we're solving now.”
Gazzang's engineering team will work on other Hadoop security challenges by focusing on the Cloudera Center for Security Excellence where they will focus on security testing and certification, security ecosystem partner enablement, and comprehensive data and cluster security technologies.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
