Autodesk Announces Spark Open Software Platform For 3D Printing

📅 - Multinational software company, Autodesk, announced on Wednesday its new 3D printer, along with a open-software 3D printing software, revealed the company via blog post.

The 3D printing software, Spark, will launch alongside the new printer to make 3D printing “more reliable yet simpler.”

“Spark will be open and freely licensable to hardware manufacturers and others who are interested. Same for our 3D printer – the design of the printer will be made publicly available to allow for further development and experimentation,” writes Autodesk CEO, Carl Bass. “The printer will be able to use a broad range of materials, made by us and by others, and we look forward to lots of exploration into new materials.”

According to analysts at Canalys, the 3D market has reached over $2.5 billion globally and is expected to reach $16.2 billion by 2018, a 45.7% increase from 2013 to 2018.

Autodesk has not announced the availability and pricing of its new printer.
