May, 2014 : WSJ Twitter Account Hacked By Syrian Electronic Army

📅 - The Syrian Electronic Army has struck again, this time targeting security expert Ira Winkler through the Wall Street Journal's Twitter account.

CNN reported that on Tuesday afternoon, @WSJD tweeted a picture of a cockroach with Winkler's head pasted over the head, followed by the caption, “@Irawinkler is a cockroach.”

A few minutes after the post, the Wall Street Journal addressed the issue by writing on their main account, “We are aware some of our Twitter accounts may have been compromised. We are looking into it.”

The issue between the group and Winkler started when he presented information about the SEA's members at the RSA cyber security conference earlier this year.

“These people are kind of like the cockroaches of the Internet at the moment,” said Winkler. “The attacks are really of little consequence except to spread propaganda.”

The Syrian hacking group has been previously linked to hacking newspapers, computers, and companies such as the Financial Times, Twitter, The New York Times, CNN, Microsoft, and the BBC.
