Apr, 2014 : Red Hat Acquires Inktank For $175 Million
📅 - Red Hat announced today that it has purchased the open source storage firm, Inktank, for $175 million in cash, thus pushing towards its dominance in the storage market.
The company says it will be the “leading provider of open software-defined storage” with its GlusterFS storage offering and Inktank's Ceph Enterprise which provides storage software to companies using public and private clouds, according to a press release from Red Hat.
“We believe our open storage technologies will be critical in the management of data in the coming era of cloud computing,” said founder and CTO of Inktank, Sage Weil. “Joining Red Hat will no doubt lead to tremendous innovation that will ultimately serve the industry well and answer the demand for open storage solutions fully integrated with existing and emerging data center architectures such as OpenStack.”
The San Francisco based company, Inktank, was founded in 2012 and has raised over $14.4 million with investors such as Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth, and New Dream Network, owners of the cloud hosting company DreamHost, TechCrunch reports.
Inktank provides service to companies such as Cisco, CERN, and Deutsche Telekom, with partners including Dell and Alcatel-Lucent.
Red Hat's acquisition of Inktank is expected to close in May 2014.
