Apr, 2014 : AT&T Announces 21 City U-Verse GigaPower Expansion

📅 April 22, 2014 - AT&T plans on bringing its high speed gigabit Internet service, AT&T U-Verse GigaPower, to “100 candidate cities and municipalities nationwide, including 21 new major metropolitan areas,” ArsTechnica reports.

“AT&T will work with local leaders in these markets to discuss ways to bring the service to their communities,” said AT&T. “Similar to previously announced metro area selections in Austin and Dallas and advanced discussions in Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem, communities that have suitable network facilities and show the strongest investment cases based on anticipated demand and the most receptive policies will influence these future selections and coverage maps within selected areas.”

The 21 metropolitan areas that is planned to receive this service are Atlanta, Augusta, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Greensboro, Miami, Los Angeles, Oakland, Nashville, San Antonio, Orlando, San Jose, San Diego, St. Louis, and San Francisco.

The telecommunication company has yet to announce pricing for the GigaPower service in the new cities, but in Austin, where the service has already been launched, AT&T charges $70 a month for the 300 Mbps service.

On Monday AT&T said that they intend to reach 57 million customers in 22 states by the end of 2015.
