Feb, 2011 : Alert Logic Announces Support for IPv6 in SaaS Offering
📅 - Addresses new security challenges that accompany shift to IPv6 networks.
Alert Logic, a provider of log management, intrusion detection and cloud security solutions for enterprises and service providers, today announced limited availability of IPv6 networking support in its Threat Manager product and ActiveWatch managed service. The company claims that with this support, its customers and partners can now confidently migrate to IPv6 networks knowing security is being monitored with the right combination of Software-as-a-Service products and monitoring expertise.
It articulates that with the depletion of unallocated IPv4 address space, organizations are being forced to migrate their networks to IPv6. While IPv6 networks provide orders of magnitude more address space, this protocol brings a host of new security challenges. Primarily, organizations are questioning whether existing security solutions can effectively protect their networks against IPv6-based attacks. Additionally, security professionals are not yet equipped to react to these new types of threats in their environments.
The company mentions that its Threat Manager monitors both native IPv6 networks and IPv6 over IPv4 tunneling to detect suspicious activities and attacks. Combined with the expert monitoring offered through the ActiveWatch service, the company not only detects IPv6-based attacks, but also provides expert guidance in remediation.
"Availability of IP address space has been deemed a business continuity issue by our service provider partners," said Urvish Vashi, Vice President of Marketing at Alert Logic. "By leaving the security monitoring to Alert Logic during this complex transition, they can focus on expanding their portfolio to include new products and services."
