Jun, 2010 : Oracle Launches Oracle Application Express Release 4.0

📅 June 24, 2010 - Rapid web application tool for Oracle database streamlines development and usability with websheets and dynamic actions features.

Oracle, a provider of software for information management, yesterday announced the launch of Oracle Application Express version 4.0, which is designed to reduce the time and complexity of building Web 2.0 applications and reports.

The company claims that it introduced the tool to further streamline the development of database-centric web applications. It says that Oracle Application Express is a feature included, at no additional cost, with all editions and releases of Oracle Database 11g. It adds that the tool is also available for download from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN).

According to the company, new features in Oracle Application Express Release 4.0 are:

New Dynamic Actions: allows developers to declaratively incorporate dynamic client-side processes, alleviating the need to learn JavaScript and AJAX to provide a robust Web 2.0 user experience
Plug-Ins: extend the development environment, enabling developers to incorporate custom components
RESTful Web Services: enables integration with RESTful Web services via a declarative interface
Websheets: provides a quick and simple way to integrate and share content and data on the web
Improved themes provide a modernized user interface that is compliant with XHTML and CSS standards
Using only a web browser, Oracle Application Express allows developers to rapidly build and deploy professional applications for Oracle Databases that are both fast and secure
