Nov, 2009 : Dyn Inc. Announces Dynect Platform's CDN Manager
📅 - Offers CDN choice and improved performance while reducing internet wait time by directing users to nearest CDN.
Dynamic Network Services Inc. (Dyn Inc.), a DNS provider based in Manchester, today announced at Ad:Tech NY that it is taking website traffic routing and Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) to the next level with its latest offering: the Dynect Platform's Content Delivery Network (CDN) Manager. The company states that Dynect Platform's CDN Manager offers three key benefits: substantial costs savings when compared to using only a tier one CDN provider, improved performance due to further redundancy with multiple CDN players, and the ability to test multiple CDNs at once to determine peak performance formulas and traffic bleed over.
It explains that registrar or ISP-based DNS solutions cannot route user traffic to various CDN providers, as these systems do not avail any advanced features at the DNS level. The purpose of a CDN is to push content closer to the network edge to assist in routing traffic to bandwidth-intense content sites so that users receive information as fast as possible. Using a CDN has become a defacto best practice for optimizing a user's web experience.
"The Dynect Platform's CDN Manager lets customers take advantage of multiple CDN providers simultaneously, rather than relying on just one," said Tom Daly, CTO of Dyn Inc. "By evenly distributing traffic to the nearest CDNs using CDN Manager, customers can adjust the amount of traffic sent to each CDN and set specific parameters for distribution and routing."
Artur Bergman, VP of Engineering and Operations from Wikia, Inc. is using CDN Manager to send European traffic to Wikia's traffic managed DNS end-point and American traffic to their CDN. "It's been great to play a part in Dynect's continued evolution, as we used to do DNS and GSLB ourselves for many years. The biggest selling point for us was the 100ms in average connection time cut that switching to Dynect for a new visitor meant to us. That and the automatic failover between datacenters allow us to handle downtime, without issue."
Max Robbins, President of aiCache, a partner of Dyn Inc., commented, "aiCache depends on Dyn's CDN Manager to enable its Dynamic Cloud Caching services. CDN Manager's ability to route traffic geographically and its professional support give us the flexibility we require to build mission-critical applications on cloud infrastructure. With the inclusion of failover technology, Dyn is providing the key element that allows customers to move to our platform with complete confidence."
