Feb, 2009 : Iland Joins VMware Service Provider Program

📅 February 24, 2009 - Virtualization and cloud hosting services provider iland Internet Solutions (iland.com) has joined the VMware Service Provider Program, giving iland customers access to VMware's (vmware.com) virtualization-enabled solutions, applications and services with proven reliability, broad application coverage and unique mobility features, all across one common platform.

In addition to hosted VMware VI Enterprise solutions, managed colocation and high speed IP bandwidth, iland customers will now have access to VMware's economical virtualization solutions that let users deploy a broad set of applications to the cloud without rewriting. Launched in June 2007, the VMware Service Provider Program was designed to give only a select few hosting providers the ability to supply licenses for virtual servers on the basis of periodic rental agreements, making flexible, reliable virtualized hosting cheaper for clients.

VMware's virtualization solutions allow iland customers to use their hardware resources more efficiently, effectively letting users do more with less. Instead of paying for a dedicated set of servers to run an application, the cloud-computing model lets users dynamically scale their hardware requirements to match the needs of the application, letting them add or remove server and storage resources automatically.

"We're working with VMware to help ensure our clients have access to the latest technology in cloud hosting," iland president Brian Ussher said in a statement. "iland can now leverage the large range of applications that run on the VMware platform as well as the 1,000-plus appliances in the VMware Virtual Appliance Marketplace. Now, deploying new applications to the cloud or on premise is fast, easy and affordable."

VMware emerging channels director Geoff Waters welcomed iland to the VMware Service Provider Program. "iland's expertise in virtualization and managed IT services is a valuable addition to our program, which includes more than 100 services partners worldwide," Waters said in a statement. "We look forward to accelerating the ability of iland to deliver our latest technology to customers, and to help ensure more affordable and reliable application hosting and infrastructure services."

Last week, one of Europe's largest business hosting providers, LeaseWeb (leaseweb.com ), became the Europe's VMware Service Provider Program, making it possible for its customers to rent rather than buy VMware software for their web environments.
