Jan, 2009 : RealNetworks Expands at Interxion Facility

📅 January 27, 2009 - European data center operator Interxion (interxion.com) announced on Tuesday that digital entertainment services firm RealNetworks (realnetworks.com) has significantly expanded its presence in the company's Frankfurt data centers.

After seeing a significant rise in demand for its services, RealNetwork says it plans to expand its Interxion-based infrastructure by approximately 75 percent.

The company provides digital media and entertainment services via PC, portable music player, home entertainment system or mobile phone.

Founded in 1995, the company offers a range of media delivery products and services, including media player RealPlayer, digital music service Rhapsody, video game player RealArcade and a range of mobile entertainment services, such as ringback tones.

Since 2007, RealNetwork has hosted many of its online services from Interxion data centers, including the company's Music-On-Demand services operated for European mobile carriers, and its Video-On-Demand services for web-based entertainment platforms.

"We are pleased that Real Networks decided to build on their relationship with Interxion," says Peter Knapp, managing director at Interxion Deutschland. "For providers of content and online services, three factors are more or less essential: resilience, a high concentration of carriers, and an Internet exchange PoP. We provide all three as part of our broader customer service and infrastructure package."

The Interxion campus in Frankfurt is located close to the main fibre optics lines, providing access to over 70 carriers and more than 80 Internet service providers.

The facility is one of Germany's largest hubs, connecting 80 percent of the members of Frankfurt-based German Internet exchange.

Based in Schiphol-Rijk, The Netherlands, Interxion provides network and carrier-based hosting to enterprise customers from its 24 carrier-neutral data centers located in 13 cities and across 11 European countries.
