👈 Official Responses: 0) cloud computing division, announced Wednesday on its blog that it has stopped provisioning new Ruby on Rails (rubyonrails.org) sites to the Cloud Sites platform as the company transitions over to a Slicehost's technology-based hosting model for RoR.

The announcement comes off the heels of Mosso launcing a new series on its blog last week called Spotlight on the Cloud which will review websites hosted on cloud sites.

In a blog post, Mosso assures those customers who are already using Cloud Sites with Ruby on Rails that they "don't have to change anything," as Mosso will continue providing them with support.

The company will also inform these RoR customers in advance when it begins offer the new hosting solution.

In its explanation for discontinuing the use of Cloud Sites with RoR sites, Mosso says it iniatally had a "pretty lofty ambition... to build a Ruby on Rails infrastructure in a scalable, multi-tenant environment."

However, somewhere along the way, the company realized it would need to make some "fundamental changes to the way RoR behaves," which is difficult considering it developed "a platform that doesn't always fit cleanly into a typical developer's workflow."

Following Rackspace's acquisition of virtualization hosting provider Slicehost in October, Mosso decided to focus its Ruby development on Slicehost.

During the transition phase, Mosso is encouraging new customers that are seeking an immediate RoR solution to view the articles section on Slicehost site (articles.slicehost.com) to help them install Ruby on Rails in their own environment with full root access.
