According to the company's most recent announcement, NANOG 45 will be the first NANOG event held outside of North America, taking place from January 25 to 28, 2009 at the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel in Santo Domingo.
The North American Network Operators' Group describes itself on its website as "an educational and operational forum for the coordination and dissemination of technical information related to backbone and enterprise networking technologies and operational practices."
NANOG events are held three times a year and the group says it attracts more than 450 Internet network operators, engineers, and software and hardware vendors from around the world.
"NANOG 45 is an important forum where global network operators come together to exchange ideas and share the latest technical and operational information affecting networks worldwide," says Betty Burke, project manager of Merit Network, the organization that coordinates NANOG meetings. "We are proud to have Terremark as a partner, especially since a major part of their business model is about connectivity and internetworking, which makes the Internet the unmatched communications tool that it is today."
Besides the notion that a partnership between Terremark and NANOG seems like a rather natural fit, Terremark also operates the NAP del Caribe in Santo Domingo, which opened this past July, giving the company a strong local presence.
Terremark says its staff and NAP del Caribe personnel are working closely with NANOG and Merit to ensure a successful event. And of course the experience of having hosted two previous NANOG events in Miami is likely to help with running a smooth shop next month.
"Hosting NANOG in the Caribbean provides an opportunity to highlight network issues related to the region and allows exposure to ISP's and network providers who might not otherwise be able to attend," says Josh Snowhorn, VP of Terremark.
