Dec 4, 2008 : Tucows Joins Fraud-Fighting Group

📅 December 4, 2008 - Internet services provider Tucows (tucows.com) announced on Tuesday it has become the latest member of a global fraud-fighting community.


The aforementioned community is Ethoca (ethoca.com) and its purpose, according to its website, is to make e-commerce safer and more profitable by gathering order experience information from a collaboration of companies across different industries and then share that knowledge to help businesses make more informed decisions about their customer transactions.

Ultimately, this effort is supposed to help community members see an improved customer experience, increased revenue from fewer wrongly rejected orders (meaning higher revenues) and reduced fraud and fraud-related costs.

Conducting "millions of transactions annually" and managing "eight million domain names and millions of email boxes" through its OpenSRS brand, Tucows says it will use Ethoca to expand its existing fraud management tools and improve customer experiences and speed order processing by leveraging positive order histories to make more informed customer decisions.

Likewise, by contributing its data to the community pool, Tucows will provide its collaboration partners with knowledge they can use to identify their own good-risk customers, says the company in the press release.

"Tucows knows modern fraud management means keeping fraudsters at bay, but it also means ensuring a positive experience for our customers," says Ross Rader, director of retail services at Tucows. "By working with the global fraud-fighting community we reduce the need for manual fraud reviews and avoid delays for customers. This improves the experience and transparency for all parties involved in a transaction with us, from customers to partners to credit card companies. Our objective is to reduce our total cost of fraud to as close to zero as possible."

In other related news, last month Tucows announced it has sold all of its equity interest in domain registry service Afilias back to the company for $7.4 million.
