Nov 26, 2008 : E-tailers Not Prepared, says Survey
📅 - Web hosting provider Fusepoint Managed Services (fusepoint.com -> hostpapa.com) announced on Wednesday it has released the results of a recent survey which reveals that 75 percent of Canadian executives say they are confident in their website's operation during the busy holiday season, despite 56 percent admitting that they are not prepared for it.
Last year's Cyber Monday, the Monday directly following Black Friday, racked in about $733 million in online sales. And despite the current recession, experts anticipate that it will be even bigger this year.Commissioned by Fusepoint Managed Services, the Leger Marketing-conducted survey is based on the responses of 800 Canadian decision makers from November 3 and 16 whose website are used as a means of communicating with customers.Other key findings include 47 percent of senior decision makers admitting their website has been down unexpectedly in the past. Of these executives, 71 percent say that their site was back online within a few hours while 24 percent say it took a day or longer to get back up and running. Unfortunately, only 20 percent of decision makers say they can only tolerate one hour or less of downtime without it impacting brand reputation or the bottom line.Additionally, 48 percent of all decision makers have no idea when the spikes in online activity occur on their site. Of those that do, 20 percent say the greater website activity occurs after 5:00 p.m. while 20 percent say the spike occurs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.When asked about their organization's Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, 59 percent say their website does a good job of staying current with the latest security and e-commerce transaction standards, 25 percent worry their website may do down during a critical time and only 27 percent of those conducting e-commerce transactions are PCI compliant. Finally, of those who are familiar with PCI compliance standards but have yet to come into compliance, 78 percent say their business would see an increase in overall security by becoming PCI compliant, 77 percent say their business would see an increase in customer confidence when providing personal information and 47 percent say their company would have a significant if not greater competitive advantage by implementing PCI standards. In October, Fusepoint announced that engineering network Engineering.com selected Fusepoint's scalable hosting solutions for its website.
