👈 Official Responses: 0 -> softlayer.com -> ibm.com) announced on Tuesday the launch of a new application programming interface that will extend the management capabilities of Planet Alpha's dedicated hosting customers, particularly its reseller customer base.


According to The Planet's most recent announcement, the API will enable resellers to integrate features from the company's Orbit customer portal into their own applications, "to extend their internal management systems, tools and portals to automatically manage their hosted infrastructure without manual human intervention."

"We offer our Planet Alpha customers a number of ways to manage their own hosted environments, whether through our customer portal, our around-the-clock support, or via self-service options such as KVM-over-IP or remote reboots," says Urvish Vashi, The Planet's general manager for dedicated servers. "With the Orbit API, we're extending the self-service capabilities of our customers, giving them greater automation and control over their hosted servers."

Some of the Orbit features resellers will be able to take advantage of through the API include details about the different devices hosted at The Planet, including bandwidth use and hardware device lists and server reboots. Customers can also integrate Orbit ticketing into their own internal applications as well as invoices.

The Planet says the API will be available to all customers at no additional charge.

Merging on-premise storage performance with cloud storage capabilities, The Planet announced on Monday it is now offering a new scalable and on-demand cloud storage service, which it says "opens a whole new world for companies to extend their hosted environments directly into the cloud."
