👈 Official Responses: 0) announced on Thursday it has more than doubled the capacity of its hosting network from 210Gbps to 500Gbps, to meet the increased bandwidth demand from existing and new customers.
The news follows the company's announcement earlier this month where LeaseWeb revealed it was improving its optical fiber hosting network by investing in optical Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing technology.
LeaseWeb expanded its capacity by acquiring additional port capacity from telecom carriers and Internet exchanges to meet the increase in customers bandwidth usage, which has more than doubled since June from 100 to 240Gbps.
Despite the recent economic downturn, October in particular saw a significant increase in new customers and bandwidth usage.
The web host decided to increase its available capacity to twice the actual use of bandwidth because of the company's ongoing commitment to providing scalable hosting solutions.
"Bandwidth availability is a key requirement for many clients to be able to expand their web environment," says Pieter Dijkhuis, finance director of LeaseWeb. "This is equally important as the available data center space and inventories of network and server equipment. Our proposition is designed to meet those requirements. We have ample space available in our CO2-neutral EvoSwitch data center, among other facilities, and we maintain large inventories of equipment for clients such as HP, Dell and Cisco."
The company already increased the total capacity of its hosting network from 160 to 210 Gbps in late May to meet the demand of existing and new bulk users of bandwidth.
These customers distribute their streaming audio and video data through the LeaseWeb network, including 123Video.nl, the Danish company Octoshape, product comparison site Twenga, Garage TV from Belgium, Turkish media firm Haber7 and the German broadcasting company WIGE Media AG.
LeaseWeb's number of customers has also doubled since January 1, 2008.
The Netherlands-based LeaseWeb provides a range of services, including domain name registration, hosting solutions, dedicated servers, colocation, server virtualization, and streaming.
The web host has four data centers in the Amsterdam region by means of major telecom carriers, as well as presence at Internet exchanges in Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Frankfurt, New York, Vienna, Stockholm, Warsaw, Zurich, Prague, and Madrid.
The WHIR recently talked to LeaseWeb managing director Con Zwinkels in an email interview where he discussed the company's green practices through its EvoSwitch data center.
