Oct 17, 2008 : BitGravity Delivers ASU HD Content
📅 - Showcasing an interesting application of content delivery network services in an academic research environment, BitGravity (bitgravity.com -> tatacommunications.com -> bigrock.in), which recently released its new Advanced Progressive API, announced on Wednesday that Arizona State University (asu.edu) has begun using BitGravity's high-definition video delivery to help screen "realistic scenario modeling" projects enabled by the university's Decision TheaterĀ (decisiontheater.org).According to BitGravity's most recent announcement, Decision Theater creates dynamic environments - like cutting-edge visualization, modeling and simulation, and decision support tools for collaborative decision making - to enable participants to engage in "what if?" analysis of multiple sustainability scenarios.
As part of ASU's Global Institute of Sustainability, projects have included mapping a response to a potential pandemic flu outbreak, anticipating water-management issues and helping cities plan for smart growth, helping science and community leaders can make more informed decisions.

BitGravity steps into this with the delivery process using its "Distributed Origin" based content delivery platform and global network, enabling ASU to present and view content quickly and efficiently on "the drum," a 260-degree faceted display with seven screens that shows panoramic computer graphics or video content.
"The HD video provided by our solution makes the scenario simulations modeled through Arizona State even more realistic, and this helps decision-makers explore all aspects of a challenge and better understand the impact of their choices," says Mari Mineta Clapp, VP ofmarketing at BitGravity. "Arizona State is at the vanguard of an entirely new and highly promising field in sustainability, and we are proud that BitGravity was selected to be part of the important work that is taking place through Decision Theater and benefiting a wide range of public-sector and commercial clients."
One of the first projects ASU delivered in collaboration with BitGravity was the live feed of a lecture on energy independence from ASU's Global Institute of Sustainability, by Jay Hakes, director of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.
