Feb 22, 2008 : Stream Offers Ready-to-Fit Facility
📅 - Real estate investment, development, and services company Stream Realty (streamrealty.com) recently announced that it has built a ready-to-fit data center (streamrtf.com/legacy/) in Plano, Texas to accommodate large companies that need to expand to a new facility quickly.
Located in Plano's Legacy Business Park, the 150,000 square foot building has been designed to house a Tier IV data center and is constructed with 9-inch thick concrete walls that are built to withstand winds up to 175-mph, meets heavy power requirements and has access to six fiber-optic service providers. The facility, which is located on a 20 acre property, has also been designed to more than double in size to 350,000 square feet if needed, says the company.
Stream Realty says that this project in particular has been in the works for two years now and believes that the demand for data center space is large enough today that corporate users will opt to buy a building that will meet most of their needs and is ready immediately rather than buying a vacant piece of land and building out their own facility.
A company that invests in a property and builds out a ready-to-fit data center for sole purpose of selling it to a data center operator or hosting provider isn't a common practice in this industry and it has yet to be seen how successful such a venture will be. However, Stream Realty says it currently has a similar project in the works in San Antonio.
