EDS Extends Relationship With Akamai to Provide New Services

📅 May 21, 2001 - EDS (eds.com), a leading global data services company, and Akamai Technologies, Inc. (akamai.com), a leading content delivery services provider, announced on Monday that they have formed an agreement to offer Akamai's EdgeSuite service with EDS? hosting services.

The addition of EdgeSuite to EDS? comprehensive range of hosting services creates an optimal solution for enterprise customers looking to maximize site performance and reliability when delivering Web applications. Built on Akamai's global edge network, Akamai says EdgeSuite is the first suite of integrated services that allows clients to reap the benefits of content delivery across an entire Web site, including static and dynamic content, embedded objects, streaming media, applications and HTML.

The companies say the worldwide content delivery services market is expected to grow to more than $2 billion by 2003, from $96.7 million in 2000 and $462.5 million in 2001, according to The HTRC Group.
Monday's agreement targets this market and marks an expansion of a cross-selling relationship EDS and Akamai established in September 2000. Under the agreements, EDS became a reseller of Akamai's FreeFlow(SM) content delivery, FreeFlow(SM) Streaming media delivery and FirstPoint(SM) global traffic management services, and Akamai became a provider of EDS? Intelligent Storage Services.
