The new Fremont XO data center provides customers with high-speed Internet connectivity via fully redundant XO metro fiber networks. Because XO is a facilities-based, Tier One service provider with over 10Gbps of provisioned capacity to over 200 public and private peering partners, the XO Fremont data center provides for faster content delivery (low latency) and increased reliability (high throughput) of customer traffic.
Additionally, the data center boasts a number of features, including 24-hour server monitoring and customer support, fire suppression capabilities and pay-by-the-hour server expert services. All XO data centers come equipped with multiple levels of redundant power sources, including UPS back-up and diesel-powered generators. Consequently, the Fremont data center is equipped to minimize the impact of interruptions in the center's power supply as a result of the power shortages recently experienced in California.
"From the beginning, XO has executed a strategy of being a full service, integrated communications provider with a breadth of services including hosting," said James Isaacs, Vice President, Product Management Hosting and Application Services, for XO Communications. "The expansion of our data center capacity with the addition of the Fremont facility illustrates the growing demand for XO hosting and network access services."
Growing businesses benefit from the combination of the access services available on the XO backbone and on-site data center telecommunications collocation facilities, allowing those customers to expand, as additional bandwidth and integrated voice and data services are required. XO provides customers the flexibility to pay for only what they need by choosing space, bandwidth and management services tailored to their organization.
The Fremont facility also features redundant connections to the data center Local Area Network (LAN) and the XO Wide Area Network (WAN), to meet customers' interconnection and bandwidth requirements. In the LAN environment, each server is connected to redundant core routers by a meshed, redundant switching fabric through either Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet connections. In the WAN environment, dual, physically diverse, fiber pathways connect the XO data centers. Each fiber pathway features a redundant fiber loop and connects to the XO national backbone via two physically diverse Points of Presence (POPs).
In addition to the Fremont Data Center, XO operates data centers in Irvine, San Jose, Chicago and Secaucus, New Jersey, London (2) and Paris.
