📅 - Web hosting company Digital Island, Inc. (digitalisland.com) today announced an outsourcing agreement with Bloomberg L.P. to provide ongoing live streaming services and broadcast Bloomberg Television live on Bloomberg.com.
Bloomberg will use Digital Island's Footprint Live Streaming Media services, which provide an uninterrupted stream of Bloomberg Television to Web audiences. Bloomberg television programming includes real-time breaking news and floor reports from stock exchanges around the globe, and is backed by Bloomberg News, a wire service with over 1,200 reporters in 80 different bureaus around the world. This new agreement with Bloomberg TV is an expansion of the existing relationship between the two companies, with Digital Island also providing network services for Bloomberg.
"Footprint Live is a complete streaming media solution that allows Bloomberg to stay focused on its core business of creating world-leading financial news," said Adam Cohen, vice president of media services, Digital Island. "Digital Island's Footprint services bridge the gap between traditional media companies and the Internet with minimal infrastructure and content management costs."
Footprint Live acquires and encodes Bloomberg TV's live video signal and distributes it over Digital Island's content delivery network. Digital Island's streaming services ensure high-quality broadcasts that minimize lag time and buffering by streaming content from servers close to Internet users at the edge of the network, and seamlessly directing queries to the optimal server through Digital Island's patented Best Distributor Selection (BDS) technology.
