Interxion, Cidera Team Up To Provide Satellite Delivery of [...]

📅 July 4, 2001 - UK-based Interxion, (Interxion.com), who operates a network of Internet Exchange Centers across Europe and satellite broadcasting specialist Cidera (cidera.com) announced today they have teamed up to provide services that offer satellite-based delivery of broadband content.

By using satellite delivery, the comapnies say content can bypass the Internet's congested landline infrastructure, making it possible for ISPs to deliver high-quality rich media to millions of end users. It is a major step in the process to bring TV quality moving pictures over the Internet to end users' PCs.
Cidera's satellite broadcast system avoids congested landlines, accelerating content delivery and vastly improving viewing quality. Cidera then uses Interxion for satellite downlinks, as the company operates a network of 15 Internet Exchange Centers across Europe. ISPs need only locate a server in Interxion`s facility to have easy access to the satellite delivery system. As hosts to a major LINX peering point, Interxion London is perfectly placed to provide the link between ISPs and other content distributors and Cidera`s service.
