Nov, 2001 : IHS Helps Air Force Web Enable Maintenance Manuals
📅 - IHS Enterprise Solutions (ihs.com/solutions), an IHS Groupcompany, announced today that it is installing a Web portal for the UnitedStates Air Force (af.mil) for worldwide delivery of USAF Tech Orders and other mission-critical, hyperlinked data in November.
Tech Orders are detailed maintenance and repair procedures for Air Forceaircraft. With this contract, millions of pages of text, illustrations anddata tables will be converted into electronic formats for secure access onthe dod.mil network. All three Air Logistics Centers will participate -Warner Robins ALC at Robins Air Force Base, Oklahoma City ALC at Tinker AirForce Base, and Ogden ALC at Hill Air Force Base.
"Air Force Tech Orders are vitally important documents for maintaining highlevels of aircraft readiness," said Dennis Zehnle, president, IHS EnterpriseSolutions. "Because they are updated frequently, technicians must have thelatest version before performing repairs and maintenance. Managing hardcopytech orders is time-consuming and costly. The new solution willsignificantly shorten the process for updating, accessing and distributingthese documents, thereby providing maximum support to the warfighter."
The new system will use a Web portal designed and maintained by IHS. AirForce Tech Orders are one of six data sources being provided by this newportal. Three of the data systems are from the Air Force and three are fromIHS. In addition to Tech Orders, Air Force users will have instant access tovarious mission-critical parts information including engineering drawings, listings of replacement parts currently in the USAF inventory, commercialparts and vendor data, military specifications, DoD-adopted standards, andcommercial industry standards, all through the integration of IHS productsincluding IHS TechConnect, an IHS virtual hyperlinking technology.
Users can also directly link to IHS' Haystack, a parts research andlogistics system with more than 100 million parts from the Federal SupplyCatalog and 40-plus databases of related purchasing and historicalinformation, and to CatalogXpress, a database of more than nine thousand ofthe most popular industrial and equipment manufacturers and their catalogsavailable online in PDF format, eliminating the need for paper vendorcatalog libraries. IHS' Specs and Standards is available as a direct link aswell.
