Dec, 2001 : Williams Communications Finalizes Purchase of CoreExpress


📅 - Broadband provider Williams Communications(williamscommunications.com) announced yesterday that it has closed on its asset purchase agreement to obtain the fiber-optic network, intellectual property, and Internet protocol capabilities of CoreExpress (coreexpress.com). Financial terms were not disclosed.

With the acquisition, Williams Communications says it will increase thebreadth of its virtual private network offering, launching in first quarter2002, which will give customers the ability to view and measure performanceof their networks.
A recently completed field trial for CNN, conducted over the CoreExpressbackbone acquired by Williams Communications, demonstrated that an IPnetwork can be used to reliably exchange live and taped broadcast-qualityvideo among stations affiliated with the news network. The trial has alsoproven that high volumes of traffic can be cost-effectively delivered tolarge numbers of affiliates while still achieving the desired level ofquality, latency and service necessary to exchange mission-critical content,the company stated.
