📅 - IBM (ibm.com) announced today that Countrywide InsuranceServices (cwinsurance.com) has adopted IBM WebSphere e-infrastructuresoftware as its corporate standard to develop and deploy customer Web site,after evaluating several other application server offerings.
Countrywide is also using WebSphere for numerous intranet and cross-brandWeb sites, and for delivering automatic quotes online for home and lifeinsurance.
Countrywide's Web sites offer online quotes for homeowners insurance, condoinsurance, home warranty, term life insurance, individual health insuranceand Medicare supplement plans. In addition, Countrywide is one of the firstin the industry to offer users the option to purchase a policy online.Consumer insurance Web sites offered through Countrywide and its affiliatesinclude directnetinsurance.com, rentersins.com and ihaveinsurance.com.
"When we created our Web sites, our goal was to provide consumers withaccess to a broad range of insurance products and coverage options," saidCharles Benedict, senior vice president of IT for Countrywide. "We alsowanted to empower them by providing easy access to information and thedesired level of guidance necessary to make an informed decision inobtaining the best insurance coverage. That goal could not be attainedwithout first employing a solid technology platform supported by a strongbusiness partner."
With WebSphere, Countrywide can expand its B2B offerings and lower the costof developing applications. The company has integrated WebSphere with XSLtechnology, a template-based editor that enables XML. This allows developersto use the same code base across many different Web sites. The applicationserver provides the fundamental infrastructure for portal andpersonalization technologies, enabling the company to adapt its products forgreater customer satisfaction.
