👈 Official Responses: 0 -> networksolutions.com) and VeriSign, Inc. (verisign.com), a provider of digitaltrust services, announced that VeriSign Global Registry Services haslicensed SnapNames' Parallel Registry technology to develop a VeriSigndomain name Wait Listing Service (WLS).

The service would allow parties to be next in line to register a domain nameonce it is deleted from the registry. SnapNames has customized the serviceto fit VeriSign's .com and .net registry architecture allowing VeriSignGlobal Registry Services to offer the WLS to all ICANN-accreditedregistrars. Current wait listing services, implemented at the registrarlevel, must compete for a domain name when it becomes available.Implementation at the registry level would provide equal access to allregistrars and would result in a higher efficacy rate for applicants, as theregistration is virtually assured, should the current domain nameregistration be deleted.
A proposal has been submitted by VeriSign Global Registry Services to allICANN-accredited registrars (who represent the distribution channel for thisservice) seeking their comment through January 18. Comments from otherregistries and other interested ICANN Domain Name Supporting Organizationconstituencies will be sought after January 18.
"This is a positive move for our industry - one that will ensure anequal-access, first-come, first-served, and reasonably priced service thatwould be available to every registrant, regardless of sophistication," saidSnapNames chairman and CEO Ron Wiener. "For years, people have been waitingfor a way to be next in line for domain names. WLS would finally anddirectly meet this need."
