Secure Computing Announces Sidewinder Firewall and VPN Appliance
📅 - Secure Computing Corp. (securecomputing.com), a provider of access control solutions, announced yesterday a new firewall and VPN product, the Sidewinder Appliance.
The Sidewinder appliance is built on Dell Computer Corp.'s rack-densePowerEdge server platform. Through Dell's Custom Factory Integrationservice, Dell will customize the hardware configuration, pre-install thesoftware, and arrange for delivery of the Sidewinder Appliance to worldwidecustomers. The Sidewinder Appliance is available with Secure's standard 24x7support and includes a 3-year next-business-day hardware warranty.
"In today's cost-conscious IT environments, customers are demanding thattheir security solutions be easy to install, administer and run at networkspeeds," said Chris Christiansen, program vice president, Internetinfrastructure and security software at IDC. "Secure Computing has delivereda firewall appliance that specifically targets the needs of today's ITcustomers."
Newly refined Mail and DNS settings allow Sidewinder to drop seamlessly intoany IP network at start-up, and because Sidewinder doesn't require securitypatches for every new type of attack, it saves time associated withmaintaining the software and operating system, the company says. Asingle-site or worldwide deployment of Sidewinders can be centrally managedfrom any Windows platform.
Sidewinder has been accepted for the EAL4+ Common Criteria evaluation, whichincludes a U.S. National Security Agency penetration test and vulnerabilityanalysis. EAL4+ is Common Criteria's highest Evaluation Assurance Levelavailable for certifying firewalls. Sidewinder's hybrid architectureencompasses the entire range of firewall security mechanisms includingstateful inspection, circuit level proxies, application filtering, securedservers, and real-time Strikeback alerts.
The Sidewinder Appliance is available now, through Secure Computing and itsnetwork of resellers and managed service providers. Sidewinder Applianceprices range from $5,900 to $23,900.
