Mar, 2002 : IBM Unveils New Disaster Recover Center In Quebec

📅 March 21, 2002 - IBM today announced the opening of a new disaster recovery center in Anjou, Quebec designed to help companies in the event of a breakdown. The first facility in Quebec to offer such a wide range of services, IBM's Business Continuity and Recovery Center includes access to powerful back-up servers, high-speed connections and connection facilities for mobile back-up units.

?Having gone through the Ice Storm, Quebec companies are aware of the strategic importance of maintaining operations during a disaster,? said Denis Desbiens, Vice-President, Quebec, IBM (ibm.com) Canada Ltd.
?The IBM Business Continuity and Recovery Center has everything needed to help companies of all sizes weather a crisis, and minimize negative impacts.?
The Anjou facility joins three other local access centers already operating across Canada, and 15 similar centers throughout North America. With more than 100 workstations, the new IBM Center provides connections to IBM's major recovery center in Toronto, where a multitude of midsize and large servers (client-servers) are located.
At par with the IBM e-business Hosting Center, which opened in Montreal in May 2001, the Anjou Center offers a redundant power supply with uninterruptible power system (UPS), a backup generator, and additional generator connection panels. The Continuity and Recovery Center features built-in flexible telephony capacity, pre-installed local area network (LAN) technology, active security systems, and 24/7 system support.
Serti Informatique, a long-standing IBM Business Partner, has agreed to take responsibility for active monitoring of the facilities.

📅 Mar 22, 2002 - AT&T And Partners Launch First Sino-Foreign IP Broadband Services Venture In China - AT&T, a telecommunications company and supplier of data, Internet and managed services, announced today that it has launched the first Sino-foreign joint venture with Shanghai Symphony Telecom (STC) and Shanghai Information Investment (sii.com)(SII). Shanghai Telecom, a subsidiary of China Telecom, will market its services under the brand name Unisiti. Unisiti is the first and only joint venture in China with foreign participation to provide IP-based data services to business customers in the Pudong business district of Shanghai. Representatives from Cable & Wireless, WorldCom and Qwest Communications all defended the practice of swapping network capacity as both lawful and helpful to the services provided by each company.
