📅 - Red Hat, Inc., an open source and Linux provider, today announced that CEO Matthew Szulik has been named to the additional post of Chairman of the Board of Directors. Promoted from President to President and CEO in November 1999, Szulik joined Red Hat four years ago. Instrumental in the company's growth, he is responsible for Red Hat's (redhat.com) adoption of open source computing.
?Matthew is doing a tremendous job building Red Hat into a financially disciplined, profitable, competitive global corporation. Red Hat has created an internationally recognized brand standing for quality and engineering excellence in open source technologies,'' said Bob Young, former chairman of Red Hat, Inc. As one of the founders of Red Hat, Young will continue his involvement as a member of the Board of Directors. Red Hat additionally announced today that Marye Anne Fox, Ph.D., has joined its Board of Directors. A chemist who serves on the National Academy of Sciences' Committee on Science and Engineering Public Policy, Fox also serves on the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).

📅 - Globix Reorganizes To Emerge From Bankruptcy - Globix Corp., a Web hosting and network services provider, today announced that the United States Bankruptcy Court confirmed the joint pre-packaged Plan of Reorganization filed by Globix and certain subsidiaries. The company plans to emerge from bankruptcy later this month. Calling for bondholders to exchange Globix's (globix.com) outstanding $600 million principal amount of senior notes for their pro rata share of $120 million in new senior secured notes, the company is also calling for about 85 percent of the reorganized company's common stock. 📅 - Q1 Sales Flat for Juniper Networks - Internet equipment manufacturer Juniper Networks (juniper.net) said yesterday that the telecom downturn took a large toll on the company's sales during the first quarter of its fiscal year. Net revenues decreased 63% from the same period a year ago, falling from more than $330 million to $122 million. The announcement did not take the investment community off guard, as the company had warned last month that it expected revenues to be lower than its original guidance. 📅 - Microsoft Releases Critical IIS Patch - Microsoft Corp. (microsoft.com), announced on Wednesday that it has released a cumulative patch for its Internet Information Server that fixes more than ten holes in the Web server software, including several critical patches for vulnerabilities that could allow a hacker to take complete control of a machine. The announcement recommends that anybody hosting Web servers using Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP install the new patch, which Microsoft says fixes all previously identified IIS security vulnerabilities, as well as 10 new ones. According to Microsoft, the company has not yet had reports of any attempts to take advantage of the exploits.
📅 - GP and Oracle Provide Web-Based Technical Training Courses - General Physics Corporation (GP) (gpworldwide.com), a wholly owned subsidiary of GP Strategies Corporation, announce today that it has entered into an agreement with Oracle (oracle.com) iLearning to provide power plant facilities access to over 1,400 technical training courses over the Internet. Within the agreement the two companies will provide a portal of training courses to power generation facilities.
