Jul 15, 2002 : Interoute Buys KPNQwest Assets: Report

interoute.com logo📅 - British telecommunications company Interoute (Interoute.com -> gtt.net) said on Monday that it has purchased the main assets of bankrupt Dutch carrier KPNQwest's Ebone network, according to a report by Reuters.

Sweden's Telia is said to be competing with Dutch telecom firm KPN for the company's remaining assets. KPNQwest trustees reportedly turned down an initial bid by KPN for part of the network.
A telecommunications leader in the Nordic region, Telia has reportedly told KPNQwest trustees and creditors that the company is interested in bidding against KPN for parts of the data network. Telia had already purchased parts of the KPNQwest network in France, Germany and Italy.
KPN had reportedly offered approximately 20 million euros for parts of the network including the assets purchased by Telia.
Interoute did not disclose the terms of the purchase of the bulk of the Ebone network, including eight rings around major European cities. But the price tag is said to be around 15 million euros, approximately two percent of the 645 million euros KPNQwest paid for the network under a year ago.
