Aug 5, 2003 : The Planet Selects MPC Server Products

📅 August 5, 2003 - The Planet Internet Services, Inc. (theplanet.com -> softlayer.com -> ibm.com) announced today it has selected MPC servers and storage products as the corporate standard for its business.

The company said it recently purchased 30 NetFRAME 2610 and 15 NetFRAME 1610 servers for its Dallas-based data center. The servers run on up to two Intel Xeon processors, a 533 MHz front side bus and up to 12 GB of DDR memory.
According to the company, the purchases indicate the company's choice of Intel as its preferred server platform.
"We were looking for a hardware vendor that not only supported the Intel platform, but also one that could respond to The Planet's rapid growth," said Lance Crosby, chief operating officer at The Planet. "These products will be providing the lifeline for our business. MPC has demonstrated their willingness to work with us as a true partner for the long term. From the outset, the company has been flexible and responsive to our needs."
At the end of July, 79 additional servers were installed.
Based in Dallas, The Planet Internet Services, Inc. is a provider of managed hosting and facilities-based IT outsourcing solutions.
