Aug, 2003 : MCI Appoints Former AT&T Exec President, COO

📅 August 13, 2003 - MCI (mci.com) announced today the appointment of Richard Roscitt as president and chief operating officer.

Reporting to CEO Michael Capellas, Roscitt will oversee MCI's core operating units and be based in the company's headquarters in Ashburn, Virginia.
"Rick is uniquely qualified for the position of president and COO and he will be a valuable addition to the MCI management team," said Capellas. "His experience is marked by a track record of success in creating business growth and technological innovation. I am confident that Rick's leadership, energy and telecom experience will serve MCI well as we emerge from Chapter 11."
Roscitt has more than 30 years of telecommunications industry experience, having spent 28 years with telco carrier AT&T where he served as president of AT&T business services and president and CEO or AT&T solutions.
"Having competed against MCI, I have a tremendous amount of respect for the company, its management team, its capabilities and the spirit and determination of its 55,000 employees," said Roscitt. "I've been impressed that customers continue to remain loyal to MCI, which speaks volumes about the company's unrelenting focus on quality of service, customer support and superior network performance. Today's announcement is the latest in a string of recent appointments to MCI's senior management team.
Formerly known as Worldcom, the company recently settled a $2.25 billion civil penalty with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission stemming from fraud charges and is expected to emerge from bankruptcy this fall.

📅 May 21, 2003 - MCI Settles With SEC, Appoints New Board - MCI (mci.com) announced Monday that is has reached a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on a civil penalty to be imposed for the company's past accounting practices. Under the terms of the settlement, the company will be found liable for a civil penalty of $1.510 billion.
